About Cassandra Strings
Every student deserves the opportunity to experience music.
At Cassandra Strings, that belief drives everything we do. Music builds confidence, discipline, and creativity. It creates a sense of belonging and shapes who students become. Our purpose is to make sure nothing stands in the way of that experience.
Cassandra Strings was founded in 1994 by Cassandra Thuneman, who began repairing and restoring instruments from the basement of her home. What started as a small repair operation quickly grew into something more. Through her work with students, families, and schools, one truth became clear. Access to the right instrument often determines whether a student continues in music or walks away from it.
In 2003, Cassandra expanded into instrument rentals to help remove that barrier. By providing reliable and affordable instruments, more students were able to begin and continue their musical journey.
As the need grew, so did the company. In 2006, Cassandra Strings opened its first storefront in downtown Algonquin. In 2010, the business moved to a larger location to better serve the community. In 2015, a second location opened in Evanston, allowing us to support even more schools and students across the region.
Today, our goal is simple. Ensure every student has access to music education, the right instrument, and the support they need to succeed. We partner closely with schools, educators, and families to provide instrument rentals, sales, and expert repair services for both string and band instruments.
Every instrument we provide, every repair we complete, and every school we support is part of something bigger. It is about helping a student take their first note, stay in their program, and grow into a confident musician.
As Cassandra Strings continues to grow, it is guided by a dedicated leadership team committed to expanding access, strengthening partnerships, and supporting the next generation of musicians.
